I’m looking for a chocolate frosting for a cake. Vegan, no oils? Is that possible? I have been lucky not to use oils (for health reasons) so far in most of my recipes. I am stumped with frosting though. Thank you!!

Hi, unfortunately this is a tough one. I do have a vegan chocolate frosting, but it does use coconut oil, I don’t have a substitution for the coconut oil. I thought it would be worth mentioning in case coconut oil is okay for you since it’s not one of the typical oils. Here is the recipe: https://robustrecipes.com/5-minute-vegan-chocolate-frosting/
I also have a yogurt cream cheese frosting recipe, which is not vegan, but you could try subbing the the cream cheese and yogurt for vegan options. It does not contain any oils, but it is on the lighter side, it works great for sheet cakes where you are not frosting the side of cakes. Recipe here: https://robustrecipes.com/yogurt-cream-cheese-frosting/
Both of these frostings aren’t like your typical frosting, they aren’t going to necessarily work for piping decorations etc. There is more info on that in the recipes.
With a quick google search I found this vegan chocolate frosting that is oil free, made with dates by Minimalist Baker : https://minimalistbaker.com/vegan-chocolate-frosting-oil-free/
I have not tried this recipe, but I know Minimalist Baker is known for creating amazing, well tested recipes.
I hope this helps. Let me know how it goes. 🙂
