Here we are, yet another month gone by – is there a way to slow these months down just a little?
May was a good one. It was the first month that we have started to have nice weather here in Iowa. Well, I should say some nice days sprinkled among some not-so-nice days. Mother Nature can’t seem to make up her mind. One day it’s 75 degrees and sunny and the next day it’s 55 degrees and sunny and one day it’s rainy all day. Really, I can’t complain. I’ve been able to go on more walks throughout the day, enjoy some morning runs without putting on layer after layer of clothes, and we have been eating most of our meals outside in our cute little screened-in gazebo. It makes every meal feel like a mini vacation: we end up talking about the birds and the trees rather than all of the dishes that need to be done. You guys, my favorite part of warm spring weather is that I don’t HAVE to wear shoes! From here on out until October it’s all about the sandals – unless I am going for a run – sandals mean one thing to me: FREEDOM! Judge if you will, but with sandals I can run out the door in 2.5 seconds flat, instead of putting on socks and lacing up shoes/boots; ugh, takes too much time! Plus, my feet get to feel the fresh air around them. Come one, I know I’m not the only one who feels this way about sandal season!
May was another great month for our taste buds! We began to take advantage of fresh produce and cut back on the cooking a little.

What’s New:
I FINALLY joined the Instagram club and I’m loving it; everyone is so nice! I know, I know, better late than never. My handle is RobustRecipes. Let’s be friends! 🙂
What We Did:
- We planned and planned – We are blessed to be able to go on 3 vacations together this summer. We couldn’t be more excited to spend time with both of our families. I will tell you more about them as they get closer. Honestly, preparing for these trips has stressed me out a little. Our trips will be somewhat back to back with only a week and a half to two weeks in between them, which means that most of my recipe work will have to be done in advance, and there is so much involved in planning recipes. I am doing my best to make sure recipes are scheduled for while I am gone, and I have been testing recipes and cooking and writing and photographing and editing photos like crazy. This is the time that I need to take a step back, go on an extra walk and be kind to myself – work hard, yes – but I also don’t want to forget to take care of me. Otherwise when it comes time for my vacation I won’t know how to relax. And what’s the point in going on a vacation if you can’t do some relaxing? Still, I am looking forward to our summertime adventures!
- We planted a garden! This is our second try at planting a small veggie/fruit/herb garden (the first failed miserably). So far nothing has died and everything is still growing! I can’t wait to see how our little baby grows up!
What to Expect:
If you have been following the blog for awhile you know that our house does not have central air, and that our kitchen tends to trap heat and become a sauna whenever I turn on the oven. The struggle is real! As the heat rises in June my recipes will require the least amount of heat possible. Expect some fun, simple and refreshing recipes that make the most of fresh ingredients! June, ready or not, here we come!! 🙂
