Now that it's officially cookie season I think it's time that we start baking, don't you agree? You guys, my weakness in life is desserts, especially ones with chocolate in them. Around Christmas time there are cookies and pies and candy galore. The struggle to not overindulge in all of these tasty treats couldn't be more real. Raise your hand if you struggle with the temptation of Christmas desserts too! If you didn't raise your hand, then are you even human? As a food blogger who shares … [Read more...]
Apple Spiced Granola
Hi, friends. You know those mornings when your alarm rudely chirps at you and all you want to do is roll over and hit the snooze button a few times? By "a few times" I mean 10! As the chill settles into Iowa I find it's harder to leave my warm bed each morning. Most mornings I wake up right as my alarm goes off, and sometimes 20 to 30 minutes before. I know, I'm kinda crazy, and to be honest with you, I never thought I would be a morning person, not in a million years! I really, truly love what … [Read more...]
Gluten Free Pumpkin Pie
Okay friends, now that we’re doing this whole Thanksgiving-menu- planning thing I have another recipe for you. It is a no-fail crowd pleaser, pumpkin pie. What kind of Thanksgiving is it without pumpkin pie? Of course there is pecan or apple pie, and I love both, but in my opinion nothing beats a good, creamy, perfectly spiced pumpkin pie. Can you believe that I have yet to make a pie here on Robust Recipes? It’s pretty shocking considering how much I love a good homemade pie. Here’s the … [Read more...]
Seedy Buckwheat Granola Bars
Granola bars have never excited me too much; most of them seem to have almost the same amount of sugar, carbs, and calories as a candy bar. I would prefer to just eat the candy bar and stop pretending that granola bars are healthy. Does anyone else agree with me on this? I felt this way about granola bars until I learned that I can make my own. Now I can’t seem to get enough of them! What I love about making my own granola bars is that I can control the level of sweetness. Most … [Read more...]
Caramel Apple Upside Down Cake (GF)
You guys! I have the perfect Halloween treat for you to make! First off, how is it almost Halloween already? Wasn’t it the 4th of July just yesterday?! Seriously before we know it the winter Holidays will be here! Don’t panic, we’ve still got time to plan! Anyway, with Halloween coming up this weekend I knew I wanted to make a festive recipe. I am not into making eyeballs or bugs or mummies out of food. It’s too tedious for me. However, I wanted to make something … [Read more...]
Coconut Pumpkin Spice Latte
Hi friends!!! There is so much excitement going on right now! As I am writing this post I am sipping on a homemade pumpkin spice latte! Or maybe that’s just a major caffeine high that I am feeling. If you don’t know by now, I am a tea drinker through and through. There are only a few occasions when I enjoy coffee; it needs to be loaded with sugars and flavorings, and the milk needs to be steamed so I don’t taste it’s evil nastiness (I hate the taste of cow’s milk!), and all that other … [Read more...]
Pumpkin Oatmeal Raisin Cookies (GF)
Hello October! Right on cue the temperatures have dropped from perfect 70 to 80 degree days to low to mid 60s. These cooler temperatures mean that it’s officially baking season! Plus soup and warm beverage season! AANNDD all of the pumpkins, and squash, and apples- oh my! If you can’t tell, I am a little excited about all of the yummy, comforting foods that fall brings. As a kid I used to dread fall. It meant that school was starting, days got shorter, and that I had to wear pants … [Read more...]
Homemade Applesauce
We are fortunate enough to have this little apple orchard not too far from us. Every fall since we have moved to the area I have enjoyed going to the apple orchard to stock up on apples for a few weeks. I seem to have a problem of buying way too many apples when I go to the orchard. All of the apples look so beautiful, fresh, and juicy that I get really excited. I find it hard to stop loading up my bag. I keep wanting more apples. Before I know it, I have purchased 6 pounds of apples when I … [Read more...]
Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream (V)
The leaves are starting to turn pretty colors, days are shorter, and the air is crisp. This can only mean one thing. It’s officially pumpkin season! Okay, maybe it means that fall weather is on its way, but mostly it means pumpkin goodness! With cooler weather approaching, the idea of ice cream seems almost silly (ah, who am I kidding, ice cream is good even in 30 below freezing temperatures!), but a good pumpkin pie ice cream is perfect for Indian summer weather. Let’s embrace fall with a … [Read more...]
Gluten Free Jalapeno Cornbread Muffins
CORNBREAD MUFFINS!!! Yes, I am so excited about this recipe that I had to type it in all caps! If there is anyone out there who doesn’t like cornbread, especially in muffin form, and especially slathered with butter and honey, then I’m sorry but we can’t be friends anymore. KIDDING! But not really. In my very humble opinion corn bread should be fine in texture; use the fine ground corn flour. Cornbread should be tender; you don’t want it so dry that it gets stuck in your throat as you’re … [Read more...]
