Ingredients
Units
Scale
- 2 pounds ground beef
- 2 eggs, whisked (this helps to bind the meat and ingredients together)
- 1 Jalapeno, minced (remove the seeds or rips to adjust the spice to your taste)
- 3 to 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 yellow or white onion, minced
- 1 cup cilantro leaves and stems, minced
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- For the toppings, (optional):
- Mild cheddar cheese
- Whole wheat bun
- Slices of tomatoes
- Lettuce or leafy green of your choice
- Ketchup and mustard
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Prepare your pan by placing a single cooling rack on a rimmed cookie sheet.
- Add all ingredients to a large mixing bowl. Mix the ingredients well. I find it easiest to use my hands.
- Using your hands, form 8 patties that are each roughly the same size. Place them on the baking sheet evenly spaced. Cook for 15 to 20 minutes, or until they are cooked thoroughly. (Cook for only 15 minutes if you prefer your burger to have some pink.)
- Turn off the oven. Top the patties with sliced cheddar cheese and put back into the oven for 2 minutes. The leftover heat will melt the cheese just right.
- Serve on top of a whole wheat bun, with a tomato or lettuce of your choice. Also serve with some ketchup and mustard, but this burger is so flavorful that you may not need the ketchup and mustard. Enjoy!
Notes
If you want to cook the burgers on the grill. Simply cook them on medium heat for 10 minutes per side.
