I may have mentioned before that I am not a coffee drinker unless it is filled with sugar and flavorings and made by a fancy barista at a fancy coffee shop. Tea is my drink of choice; it’s my jam. I enjoy a cup of hot tea in varying flavors of green tea, herbal tea, white tea, red tea, and good ol’ black tea. I guess you could say that I drink every color of the tea rainbow. I never mess with my teas. No sweeteners or milk, just plain, simple tea. However, there is one type of tea that I do … [Read more...]
Cashew Milk
You may know by now that I absolutely despise cow’s milk. I love all other things dairy but I cannot stand cow’s milk. I have tried all forms and it still makes me want to gag. So, I started making my own almond milk, and instantly fell in love with its creamy consistency and its almond flavor. I have recently started to read about making other kinds of nut milks, such as pecan and cashew milk. "Must-try-all-nut-milks," says my greedy stomach. First on the list is cashew … [Read more...]
Orange Hot Chocolate
Have you ever had one of those chocolate oranges ? We used to get them in our stocking every year for several year when I was a kid. I remember the excitement of opening the box and whacking the orange-sized ball of chocolate as hard as I could on the floor. WHACK! WHACK! WHACK! Three good whacks usually did it. Then I would peel off the orange tinted wrapper to reveal these luscious, shiny, chocolaty pieces of orange segments. The chocolate was even textured to look like the skin of … [Read more...]
Spiced Wine
When the weather begins to drop below 40 degrees all I want to drink are warm beverages. I begin drinking more tea than water. I enjoy a nice cup of hot chocolate for dessert now and then, and I begin making batches of Spiced Wine to enjoy in the evenings. Imagine curling up underneath a blanket while sipping at a glass of warm wine laced with honey, cinnamon, anise, and spicy cloves. Every sip warms you from the inside out. Spiced wine is like winter’s version of sangria! So, if you adore a … [Read more...]
Cantaloupe Sangria
There is nothing better than a cold, refreshing, fruity sangria drink to enjoy with your friends outside on a hot summer evening. Right? Since Paul and I just moved into our new house, which has a pretty awesome back yard equipped with a fire pit, we couldn’t wait to have some friends over. I whipped up a batch of this refreshing drink in the morning and in the evening Paul set the fire pit ablaze. The sangria and fire were the perfect combo. The cantaloupe sangria is perfectly sweet, … [Read more...]
Strawberry and Arugula Sangria
Sangria is hands down one of my favorite drinks to sip during a hot summer evening. What’s not to love? Fruity wine, boozy fruit. Generally sangria consists of wine, maybe a little sugar, brandy or vodka, a fruit juice or orange liquor, tons of juicy fruits, and maybe some fresh herbs. Such as basil, mint, or thyme, but rarely a leafy salad green such as arugula. Crazy, right? Actually, it is quite the genius idea. The peppery taste of the arugula graces the front of your tongue on each … [Read more...]
Orange Jalapeno Margaritas
Summertime is almost here and that means one thing. Margaritas! They are refreshing and festive. Although it may be tempting to make a margarita with a pre-mix for convenience, it is not quite so tempting when you look at the ingredient label. Bottled margarita mix is laced with tons of sugar, artificial colors and flavoring, and way too many calories. No Thank you! Making your own margaritas with fresh juice and sweetening it with a little honey is by far the way to go. Plus, it really only … [Read more...]
