Happy Friday!!!
I believe it’s time for a summertime cocktail!!! Will you join me?!
Everyone knows what sangria is, right?! Wine that has had some kind of fruit soaked in it for several hours, maybe some kind of brandy is added for an extra punch – that lovely concoction is served chilled. So fruity, refreshing, and the perfect cocktail for summer!
What would happen if we took some frozen fruit and blended it up with some wine?!?!
We would have one tasty red wine frozen sangria on our hands!
I mean, doesn’t that just sound like the most amazing thing you have ever heard of?!
Let me rephrase: it’s red wine blended with frozen mixed berries, orange juice ice cubes, and wine ice cubes to create a slurp-y, frosty, boozy, fruity, delicious drink!!!
Are you on board yet?!
Trust me, you don’t want to miss out on this red wine frozen sangria!!! It’s super delish.
Here’s how it works:
- freeze orange juice into ice cubes
- freeze some dry red wine (I used cabernet sauvignon) into ice cubes
- Find yourself a bag of frozen mixed berries: blueberries, cherries, and strawberries!
- Add some red wine to a blender
- Throw in the frozen berries, orange cubes, red wine cubes, and blend until smooth!!
- Pour into glasses, garnish with fruit, if you wanna be fancy….
- grab a straw, sit back, relax outside and enjoy summer, while keeping cool with this red wine frozen sangria
Does life get any better than that?!
The key to making this red wine frozen sangria have a nice thick slushy like consistency was to freeze the wine into ice cubes. I already had the good sense to freeze the orange juice, but to add enough wine to make it taste…well like wine, without making it to runny you need to freeze some of that wine.
Does wine freeze though?
The answer is sort of. Yes, it will mostly freeze into ice cubes that kind of crumble when you remove them from your ice cube tray. BUT it still gets the job done. Which is to keep our frozen sangria nice and frozen without making it runny. Perfection in a glass!
And just look at that gorgeous color!!! A food photographer’s dream!
Frozen red wine sangria is fruity, with plenty of wine notes, just a little bit sweet, refreshing, and 0h-so frosty!
You’re gonna love it!
Besides, it’s got orange juice and berries blended into it. Can we just say that it’s healthy?!
All in moderation, right?!
This red wine frozen sangria would be the perfect cocktail to serve at a backyard party or girl’s night, wedding shower, or bachelorette party. Just keep in mind that it kind of melts fast…because of the alcohol content in the wine.
BTW not to say that you can’t serve this red wine frozen sangria at a bachelor party, my husband loved it, but you know any girl would go crazy over a this stuff!
And just in case you’re wondering….I already have the idea for white wine sangria version…but sadly it won’t make the list of recipes to make until next summer.
Summer, please stay forever so that I can have a frozen red wine sangria EVERY Friday!! K Thanks!

Red Wine Frozen Sangria (Mixed Berry)
- Prep Time: 15 mins
- Total Time: 15 mins
- Yield: 2 to 3 1x
- Category: drink, cocktail
- Cuisine: vegan, vegetarian, dairy free, gluten free
Description
Red wine frozen sangria is a fruity sangria in slushy form. Red wine blended with mixed berries, and orange ice cubes to create the ultimate summertime frozen cocktail.
Ingredients
- For the frozen cubes
- 1 1/4 cup orange juice
- 1 1/4 cup dry red wine (I used cabernet sauvignon)
- remainder of the sangria
- 1 1/2 cups dry red wine
- 2 cups frozen mixed berries (I used cherries, strawberries, and blueberries)
- Optional 1 to 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup or agave nectar
- Optional garnishes
- orange slices
- strawberries
- cherries or blueberries on a skewer
Instructions
- Freeze the cubes:: 8 hours before you want to make this drink pour the orange juice into an ice cube tray and the 1 1/4 cup red wine into a separate ice cube tray. Freeze until frozen solid. Note that the wine cubes will freeze but be slightly soft still.
- Blend: When you are ready to make the frozen sangria add the 1 1/2 cups of red wine (not frozen) to your blender followed by the mixed berries, orange juice cubes, and red wine cubes, blend on high until everything is well blended and smooth. Taste and add 1 to 2 tablespoons of maple syrup or agave nectar, this will depend on how sweet your fruit happens to be, or just your taste preference.
- Serve: Pour into serving glasses and serve immediately. Garnish with fresh fruit such as orange slices, strawberries, cherries or blueberries, if you wanna get a little fancy. If you have a little leftover in your blender just pop it in the freezer to refill glasses.
Notes
Keep in mind that prep time does not reflect the 8 hours required to freeze the orange cubes and wine cubes. It is best to freeze the cubes the previous day.
Berries: I found a bag that had a mix of blueberries, cherries, and strawberries. You could add any proportion of those 3 berries you want. I would stay away from blackberries and raspberries because the seeds won’t blend up as easily.
Come on! You know you want one! Look how frosty it is!
