Happy Friday, Friends! I have just the thing for you on this Friday: Fresh Moscow Mules!
Moscow Mules have made a comeback in the past year or two. They are my go to drink when I am out at a bar or restaurant. Partially because I love anything that has ginger in it and partially because I can count on Moscow Mules. They’re never sickeningly sweet and they’re always at least decently good and they’re not as heavy as cider or wine.
Moscow Mules are generally made using vodka, ginger beer (not to be confused with ginger ale), and lime juice! If you’re not familiar with ginger beer, it is usually non alcoholic despite its name. If you get the good kind of ginger beer it is slightly sweet, very bubbly, and has a nice, spicy gingery kick to it. Ginger ale, on the other hand, is very sweet pop with artificially flavored ginger that doesn’t REALLY taste like ginger IMHO! Once you try ginger beer, you will never go back to ginger ale again! My favorite ginger beer that I have found is Reed’s . It’s got a nice spicy bite, is slightly sweet, and perfectly carbonated. Like I said before, Moscow Mules have become my go to drink when we are out. There are, however, some places that make their Moscow Mules with ginger beer that tastes too weak for my liking. Somewhat recently I enjoyed a Fresh Moscow Mule made with fresh ginger juice! I mean, I couldn’t even handle it! I was in gingery bliss! You know what’s next, right? I HAD to re-create this Fresh Moscow Mule at home!
Don’t worry, you won’t need a fancy, expensive juicer to make this recipe! The food processor and a fine mesh sieve are our new best friends! All you do is peel your fresh ginger, cut it up into chunks, throw it into the food processor and let the ginger get pulverized into little tiny bits. Pass the ginger through a fine mesh sieve to filter out all of the fiber. What you’re left with is some yummy freshly made ginger juice for your Fresh Moscow Mules, or your smoothies, or if you’re courageous you could brew your own ginger beer! If you do, please invite me! I’ll bring the vodka!
I must warn you, these Fresh Moscow Mules are not for the faint of heart. They are for the ultimate ginger fans! They are refreshing, heavy on the spicy ginger, with a hint of lime, and some bubbly carbonated water! These cocktails are perfect before or after dinner because all the ginger helps to promote digestion! Bring on the burgers for dinner!
I hope you love these Fresh Moscow Mules as much as I do! If you give this recipe a try, don’t forget to leave a comment below and rate the recipe! Cheers!
Fresh Moscow Mule
- Yield: 1 cocktail 1x
- Category: Drink
- Cuisine: Cocktail, Refined Sugar Free, Gluten Free, Vegan
Description
Fresh Moscow Mules are made with fresh ginger juice, a squirt of lime, vodka, agave nectar, and a little sparkling water. They are refreshing, have a spicy gingery bite and are easy to make!
Ingredients
- For the Ginger Juice:
- 1 cup fresh ginger, peeled and roughly chopped*
- 2 tablespoons filtered water
- For the Moscow Mule:
- 1 ounce fresh ginger juice
- 2 teaspoons agave nectar (or more to taste)
- 1 to 2 ounces gluten free vodka (Tito’s is gluten free)
- Juice of 1/2 lime
- Unflavored, unsweetened sparkling water
- Lime wedges for garnish, optional
Instructions
- For the Ginger Juice:
- Add the ginger and the water to the bowl of your food processor. Process until small bits of ginger remain, scraping down the sides of the bowl as needed.
- Transfer the ginger to a fine mesh sieve that’s been placed over a bowl or liquid measuring cup. Use a spatula to press as much ginger juice through the sieve as possible. Reserve the ginger pulp, which has a lot of flavor, for smoothies or baking, or discard it.
- For the Moscow Mule:
- To a cocktail glass add 1 ounce of the fresh ginger juice, the agave nectar, vodka, and lime juice. Stir to combine.
- Add ice and top the drink off with the sparkling water. Garnish with a lime wedge and serve immediately.
- Repeat these steps for as many cocktails as you are making.
Notes
*1 cup fresh ginger will make 1/2 cup ginger juice. You can scale this amount depending on how many drinks you plan to make.
Also, if you have any juice leftover, you can use it in smoothies. You can also use the pulp in smoothies.
