Are you ready for the most refreshing drink you will have all summer long?! Maybe even in your LIFE – Yup it’s that good!!! Basil mint lemon slushie is here for all of your refreshment needs!
This is not your typical slushie with some kind of artificial flavored-overly-sweetened-syrup poured on top of crushed ice.(<- Gross! BTW I don’t remember the last time I had a slushie ha!) This is way better than that. It has fresh basil, fresh mint, a little lemon zest, fresh squeezed lemon juice, and a touch of agave nectar for sweetness – oh yeah, and a ton of ice to make a slushie like consistency! It’s a slushie that’s actually healthy for you. Can you get on board with that?
The combo of basil, mint, and lemon is amazing. I would have never thought to put those flavors together, especially in a slushie form. I got the idea from a little booth that is always at our downtown farmer’s market, I literally have to find it every time we go. We have a pretty amazing farmer’s market here in Cedar Rapids, the only downfall is that it’s only every other weekend during the summer – we are gone a lot of weekends so I don’t make it to the farmer’s market as often as I would like to. I just knew I had to recreate a version of the basil mint lemon slushie so that I can have it whenever I want!
This basil mint lemon slushie is bursting with healthy ingredients, let’s break it down: Mint aids in digestion, soothes nausea, and fights fatigue. Basil is high in antioxidants and an anti-inflammatory. While lemon juice helps to alkalize the body, is high in vitamin C, and helps detox the liver (just to name a few). Plus ice, well it hydrates! And this slushie is low in sugar, only 2 to 3 tablespoons of agave nectar. I mean you pretty much just need to drink this slushy every day for the rest of summer. The end!
A bonus is that this basil mint lemon slushie only takes 10 minutes to make and only requires a handful of ingredients and a blender. Which leaves you with more time to enjoy the remainder of summer while sipping at this basil mint lemon slushie on a 90 degree day! LOVE SUMMER!
Yes, this basil mint lemon slushie is 100% meant to be enjoyed on a 90 degree August day, but lately here in Iowa it’s been on the cooler side with highs of 75 and maybe 80 degrees – WHAT? I mean August is supposed to be so hot that you can feel the heat radiating off the pavement, what is happening here?! Although I have to admit that it is nice to keep the windows open and not have to turn on our noisy window A/C – but still! Anyways, I know that other places in the world are enjoying August like weather, this basil mint lemon slushie is just what you need.
Okay, we still need it over here in cold Iowa too – pretty much everyone in the world needs it. It’s that good! You can enjoy this slushie as part of a refreshing breakfast or as a healthy sweet treat in the evening. Okay, really, there are no rules on when to drink it.
P.S. Need more refreshing, cooling summertime drinks? Try my cherry limeade, fresh carrot juice (without a juicer), healthy shamrock shake (<- more minty goodness), and my strawberry banana cucumber smoothie. Cheers! 🙂
